From a derelict office space bought on auction, to a stunning family home just outside Bristol. At the time of renovating, our client wanted a space where they could host family and friends of all ages, run their business, workout from home and one day, extend their family. With children in mind, they wanted think ahead as to how their home could be designed for all ages.
The heart of the property is an impressive double height kitchen, dining and living area. The space was perfect for easily transitioning from one space to another without needing to cross thresholds, which can present challenges in later life as well as presenting smaller hurdles for young children.
Circulation was intentionally generous and floor finishes were beautifully seamless from one space to the next. Using similar tones for the floor finish also offered a helpful feature for older eyes as strong contrasts can appear to some people to be a step or void.
The nature of the building meant that the majority of bedrooms were on ground level, with the master bed being the only room upstairs, which is a positive feature in an age-friendly home. The master bedroom doubled up as an Airbnb which offered privacy for guests without disrupting family life in the rest of the home.
